How can you get satellite internet service from Starlink? Starlink is testing a new satellite internet service that it says will allow you to "connect from almost anywhere on Earth in the world."

According to a message some Starlink users have received, the SpaceX-owned company calls it the Global Roaming Service and says it will cost $200 per month in addition to the $599 basic Starlink Kit.

The service, which uses "Starlink inter-satellite links (also known as space lasers) to provide connectivity around the world," comes with a pretty big caveat, and in its letter to users, Starlink notes that you should expect "typical high-speed, low-latency Starlink service mixed with extended periods of time. "a brief period of poor connection or none at all" but this will "improve dramatically over time".

And just as it's not immediately clear how Starlink will fulfill its promise of providing internet from almost anywhere, Starlink is still awaiting regulatory approval in various countries, including India, Pakistan, and Cambodia, and is completely unavailable in others. Global Roaming Service for some users outside the company's coverage areas, such as Greenland.

While Starlink already allows users to travel with their dishes (nicknamed "Dishy"), it looks like Global Roaming may come with fewer restrictions. For example, Starlink's current RV plan of $135 per month allows users to outfit their RV with Starlink devices for Internet access while traveling and comes with a higher priced receiver option for internet access on the go, but it is only available in certain parts of the world and internet access is not prioritized as it is for resident customers, which leads to slower speeds.

Meanwhile, the $25 per month portable add-on that comes on top of the $110 subscription for resident customers only allows users to take their plate with them if they are traveling within their home continent and requires them to change their permanent address if they spend an "extended period of time" away from home.  There is also the expensive $5,000/month marine plan for users who want to access the internet at sea.

Where Starlink makes the global roaming plan look like an unrestricted way to travel the world while using the company's satellite internet, and just like the RV plan users can pause global roaming at any time, we still don't know if Starlink will prioritize access to However, as Starlink notes, users outside the US are "responsible for acting as the importer of registration for the Starlink Kit." This means that customers will have to ensure that the kit complies with local laws and regulations in addition to paying customs duties and import taxes.

So in conclusion, the cost of the service is $159 per month for regional use and $200 per month for global use, with a one-time hardware cost of $599 if you choose a portable antenna or $2,500 if you choose a dedicated antenna for use on the go, and you should check the Starlink map to see if the service is available in your country or not.
